Fernverkehr der Deutschen Bahn: Erneut fast jeder zweite Fernzug im Juli unpünktlich

July witnessed a disappointing performance of Deutsche Bahn's long-distance trains, with only 52.6% of them running on time without significant delays. This figure remained unchanged compared to the previous month. The ongoing issues with the railway network and the extreme heatwaves in both months continued to plague both the company and its passengers.

The Bahn reported a continuous increase in infrastructure failures for several months now. In addition, numerous construction sites and the heatwaves at the end of June and July further exacerbated the situation. High temperatures, occasionally exceeding 41 degrees, put significant stress on the transportation infrastructure. Maintenance work could not be carried out as planned during extreme heat and had to be postponed.

A long-distance train is considered late if it is delayed by more than six minutes. Across the first half of the year, only 58.7% of trains were punctual, not counting train cancellations. This figure forms part of the so-called "passenger punctuality," which measures the proportion of passengers reaching their destination on time within a specific period.

A passenger is considered punctual until a delay of 14 minutes and 59 seconds. In July, this punctuality rate dropped to a mere 55%, making it the third-lowest value since the Bahn began publishing this data back in 2024.
