Dana Gas starts gas deliveries to Iraqi power plant

The UAE-based Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum have initiated natural gas deliveries to a federal Iraqi power plant, aiming to enhance electricity generation amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict. The Khor Mor field in the Kurdistan region supplies gas to the Kirkuk Taza power station, operated by Iraq's Ministry of Electricity, under a one-year contract for 100 million standard cubic feet per day.

Crescent Petroleum, Dana Gas's largest shareholder, is based in Sharjah. Following the KM250 expansion in October, which boosted Khor Mor's production by 50% to 750 million standard cubic feet per day, Majid Jafar, Crescent Petroleum's CEO and Dana Gas's managing director, highlighted the milestone. The gas supply is crucial, as it not only supports Iraq's growing electricity demand but also aids in providing better services to the Iraqi people.

This comes after multiple attacks on Iraqi energy infrastructure during the US-Iran conflict, with Dana Gas briefly halting operations at Khor Mor due to security threats. The additional capacity from the expansion creates opportunities for enhanced energy cooperation within Iraq's expanding market, ensuring more reliable electricity services.

Dana Gas CEO Richard Hall emphasized that the expanded capacity would "lay the foundation" for further energy cooperation, bolstering energy security and improving electricity reliability. Additionally, Dana Gas has partnered with UK-based Levidian to develop a graphene production site, potentially positioning the UAE as a significant global producer of the advanced material.
