A British maritime monitoring agency reported that a cargo vessel encountered an unknown projectile off the coast of Oman within the Strait of Hormuz early Tuesday morning. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center disclosed the incident, but did not provide additional details regarding the ship, such as its flag or cargo. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the open ocean, has been largely blocked by Iran since the onset of the conflict in February.

Contrasting accounts emerged regarding the state of ongoing discussions between the United States and Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that talks with Iran had recommenced, following a day when he canceled imminent strikes against the country. Trump attributed the resumption of dialogue to the urging of Gulf allies, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Trump maintained that "whether 'Iran wants to admit it or not, we are, in fact, talking."

Conversely, Iran firmly denied engaging in any form of dialogue with the United States, stating that it was only conversing with Oman. Iran insisted that the conversation centered on the Strait of Hormuz, but did not elaborate further on the nature of the dialogue.
