Balochistan ‘not as bleak as portrayed’, says Bugti

Quetta, Balochistan: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has expressed that the security and governance situation in the province is neither ideal nor as dire as some portray outside. In an interview, Bugti cautioned that negative and one-sided narratives could damage Balochistan and Pakistan's image. He pointed out that national media focus intensifies only during violent incidents, disregarding the province's progress and development.

Bugti highlighted initiatives like youth welfare programs, improved hospital services, functional schools, and the recruitment of 17,000 teachers. However, he lamented that these achievements lacked national recognition. Bugti discussed new divisions and districts to enhance governance and service delivery, addressing the issue of large administrative units hindering efficient management.

Discussing security, Bugti praised international support in the fight against terrorism, alleging that anti-Pakistan groups receive backing from Afghanistan, despite commitments. He blamed Indian intelligence networks for facilitating, financing, and training terrorist groups, acknowledging the difficulties in counterterrorism efforts due to Balochistan's vast terrain and scattered population.

Bugti criticized political groups for associating terrorist incidents with the state, emphasizing the need for dialogue with political parties, elected representatives, and youth to resolve political, administrative, and social issues. He noted the absence of successful international negotiations with armed terrorist groups, stressing the importance of dialogue.

Additionally, Bugti chaired a high-level meeting to prepare for Independence Day celebrations, attended by key officials including the Corps Commander Balochistan and Lieutenant General Rahat Naseem Ahmed Khan.
