Authorities seize over 1 million liters of fuel in 3-state huachicol raid

Authorities in Mexico have dismantled four illicit fuel processing centers across three states, dealing a significant blow to the illegal fuel trade, according to the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR). The coordinated operation involved federal Security Ministry, National Guard, and Pemex logistics subsidiary, targeting makeshift refineries in San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, and Morelos.

No arrests were reported, but around 1 million liters of crude and fuel were seized during the raids. Two of the facilities were found to be already abandoned. The FGR identified the sites through intelligence and investigative work, as well as information sharing among federal agencies. Seized equipment included eight tanks, vertical tanks, fuel production lines, and various documents.

The operation marks a significant step in combating fuel theft, smuggling, and tax evasion, which are major issues in Mexico. Despite progress, challenges remain as drug cartels continue to diversify their activities into illicit fuel trade.
