Apple caps bug bounty program due to deluge of AI submissions

Apple is imposing restrictions on its bug bounty program due to an influx of artificial intelligence-generated submissions. The Financial Times reported that the company has implemented these changes in response to the overwhelming number of AI-powered findings. While AI can assist in discovering and identifying programming issues, the high volume of submissions from AI sources has overloaded Apple's review teams and potentially obscured bugs identified by human security researchers.

The adjustments made by Apple include a submission cap and a 30-day pause on submissions through its internal security portal. Users who wish to bypass the cap will need to submit a special request. Apple is not alone in revising its open calls for bug hunters in response to the rise of AI tools; Google also overhauled its program earlier this year, highlighting that complex problems receive larger payouts than the easily identifiable bugs that AI can uncover.
