Another M’sian nabbed at Indonesian airport for alleged drug smuggling

Yesterday, a 22-year-old Malaysian man was arrested at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Indonesia, after allegedly smuggling nearly 1kg of methamphetamine and over 1,000 ecstasy pills onto a Batik Air flight from Kuala Lumpur. Identified only as DI, the suspect concealed the drugs under a corset he was wearing. The drugs were found in four packages, with a combined weight of 990g of methamphetamine and 1,089 ecstasy pills.

DI reportedly told investigators that he agreed to act as a courier for an international drug network due to financial struggles and mounting debts. Authorities estimated the seized drugs to have a street value of approximately 2.79 billion rupiah (RM634,300). This arrest follows closely on the heels of another Malaysian pilot's detention at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta on July 29, suspected of attempting to smuggle more than 25kg of ecstasy into Indonesia.
