Angels Designate Veteran All-Star for Assignment

The Los Angeles Angels have reportedly placed veteran outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler on assignment, according to MLB insider Mike Rodriguez on X. Soler, 34, was last seen hitting a .203 average with a .291 on-base percentage and a .373 slugging percentage for the Angels in 2025 and 2026. His contact rate of 65.7% is the third-worst in MLB among players with at least 300 plate appearances this season.

Despite trading Soler to the Angels from the Atlanta Braves in October 2024 for right-hander Griffin Canning, the Halos have not moved him before the August 3 trade deadline. Now, Soler will be placed on waivers, potentially leading to his release from the team, allowing him to explore offers from other MLB clubs. Throughout his 13-year MLB career, Soler has played for the Royals, Angels, Cubs, Braves, Marlins, and Giants, winning World Series titles with the Cubs in 2016 and the Braves in 2021.

He earned the World Series Most Valuable Player award in 2021 and was named an All-Star in 2023 while playing for the Marlins. Soler is currently in the final year of a three-year, $42 million contract with the Atlanta Braves.
