Von der Leyen calls for tighter checks and physical barriers following Ceuta crisis

The migration crisis in Ceuta has led to more exchange of letters between capitals. On Monday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen responded to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez with a text that ends with a call for solidarity among member states in migration crises like the one experienced in the autonomous city —the strongest she has made in recent days—, while also calling for strengthening EU borders “at critical points”, and there is no doubt that Ceuta is one, to “preserve the integrity of the Schengen area”.

At bottom, the German gives a bit of encouragement to Spain, which has lamented the “selfish” response of some EU partners in recent days, and a bit of criticism, pointing out by setting tasks the shortcomings of the border in the autonomous city.
