TikToker undergoes traditional cleansing after filming Oloolu masquerade procession

A TikTok user captured videos of a procession during the annual Oloolu Masquerade Festival in Ibadan, Oyo State, sparking debate. The woman, whose identity remains unknown, is believed to have mistook a figure associated with Oloolu for the masquerade itself, and was subsequently subjected to traditional cleansing rites at the Oloolu compound.

Chief Adeola Oloko, spokesperson for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, confirmed that the woman developed health issues after posting the videos and sought help from the traditional custodians. The Oloolu festival is known for its strict taboos, which include restrictions on recording or photographing certain aspects of the procession.
