This Month in KDE Linux: July 2026

Welcome to the first installment of This Month in KDE Linux, now hosted on KDE's own infrastructure! In July, several key developments took place across the KDE Linux project. Thomas Duckworth and Bhushan Shah integrated a next-gen QA system, which now conducts full-stack integration testing and has already detected and protected users from significant issues.

Hadi Chokr implemented kernel-hardening tweaks, removed unnecessary kernel modules, and improved the "Package Compatibility Helper" tool, allowing it to download software from Flathub with user consent. The tool has also been expanded to support Java and DOS apps, and now includes DOSBox for authentic DOS gaming experiences. Philip Grant fixed the mechanism ensuring consistent Flatpaks across KDE Linux systems, while David Fundament addressed issues with USB auto-suspend.

WenChao Zhang restored essential kernel modules, improving IPsec VPN performance. Hadi Chokr also ensured WWAN modems work out of the box. Documentation updates included guides on using and extending the new QA system, configuring Fcitx 5 input method, setting up bootloader menus, and more. Some work, such as manual setup of complex disk configurations, remains pending. KDE Linux stands at 83% completion for its Beta milestone.
