Soludo’s wife urges women to embrace exclusive breastfeeding

During the commencement of the 'World Breastfeeding Week 2026', Anambra's First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called upon women throughout Nigeria to prioritize exclusive breastfeeding for their infants. Dr Soludo, founder of the non-governmental organization 'Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo', highlighted the importance of breastfeeding in promoting healthy growth, bolstering immunity, and fostering a strong connection between mother and child.

In a press release issued on Monday in Awka, she emphasized the need for every child to have the best possible start in life, arguing that quality breastfeeding is one of the most effective means of achieving this goal. As the world observes the 'World Breastfeeding Week 2026' from August 1 to August 7, Dr Soludo urged expectant and nursing mothers in Anambra and across the country to adhere to the recommendation of health experts to breastfeed exclusively for the first six months of life.

She stated that breastfeeding does not lead to sagging, and experts have confirmed this. She further emphasized that no water, herbal concoctions, or solid foods are necessary during this period, as exclusive breastfeeding provides all the necessary nutrients for the baby. Through her 'Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo' NGO and various maternal and child health initiatives, the Anambra State government aims to promote awareness, education, and support for mothers and families.

The global campaign, coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, the World Health Organisation, and UNICEF, seeks to evaluate the impact of breastfeeding on nutrition, food security, and poverty reduction, showcasing successful models and community-driven actions that protect and promote infant feeding.
