Prestasi di Glasgow bukti angkat berat wajar terima RM1 juta setahun

The success of Malaysia's weightlifting team in Glasgow has provided a strong argument for the Malaysian Sports and Youth Ministry (KBS) to consider a yearly budget of RM1 million to strengthen the development of the sport. President of the Malaysian Olympic Council (MOM), Norza Zakaria, stated that the request is based on the impressive achievements showcased by the national weightlifting team at the Commonwealth Games XXIII in Glasgow.

He noted that weightlifting stands out as one of the main prospects for earning gold medals internationally, thus requiring a continuous financial commitment to ensure continued success. "In appreciation of this extraordinary achievement, MOM expresses full support for PABM's request for a yearly budget of RM1 million from KBS to further strengthen the development of weightlifting in Malaysia," Norza Zakaria said in a statement.

At Glasgow, the weightlifting team earned seven medals for the national team, consisting of five gold, one silver, and one bronze, setting a new record in the history of their participation in the Commonwealth Games. Besides the medals, PABM was also awarded the Trafalgar Trophy as the best men's weightlifting team overall at a meeting of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Confederation held at the Hilton Glasgow on July 31.

Norza emphasized that this success reflects the vision, commitment, and strategic planning of PABM under the leadership of President Ayub Rahmat, with support from officials, coaches, athletes, referees, and strategic partners. "KBS remains committed and will continue to provide support to the development of weightlifting through various channels, including leveraging international ties under the Olympic Integration Program, accessing development resources provided by KBS, and channeling direct assistance through the MOM Trust Fund," Norza Zakaria concluded.
