Phil Collins Reveals He Nearly Died From Alcohol Abuse: “People Were Coming To Say Goodbye”

Phil Collins, 75, has been battling alcoholism for years, but it wasn't until recently that the public learned the extent of his struggles. In a recent interview with the Times of London, Collins revealed that in April 2024, his manager brought his five children to his bedside in a Swiss hotel to say goodbye, as his health was deteriorating rapidly due to alcohol abuse.

Collins recounted that his kidneys were failing and his organs were shutting down. During this time, he was kept on life support, and his family worried about the possibility of losing him forever. Collins himself was unaware of the situation and had no recollection of their visits. The interview also shed light on Collins' history with alcohol addiction, which he had previously struggled with, as detailed in his 2016 memoir "Not Dead Yet."

Despite his past, Collins is now sober and has a 24/7 live-in nurse to help manage his other health issues, including type 2 diabetes, nerve damage in his hand, and complications from multiple surgeries. The singer expressed gratitude for his sobriety and shared that he has a soft spot for Taylor Swift's song "White Horse," which he chose to discuss on BBC Radio 2's "Tracks Of My Years" segment.
