NRLW star in hot water for dangerous lifting tackle

Brisbane Broncos NRLW player Ali Brigginshaw has landed herself in hot water after receiving a grade three dangerous throw charge from the judiciary. The incident occurred during last weekend's Magic Round match against Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, where Brigginshaw was sent to the sin bin for a dangerous lifting tackle on Bulldogs halfback Tayla Preston.

The tackle involved Preston being swung around and lifted before being forced into the ground head-first. Despite the serious nature of the tackle, Preston emerged unscathed. Brigginshaw, who is in her final season of NRLW before retiring, has never missed a Broncos game since the competition started in 2018. She will enter her plea at the judiciary on Tuesday night, potentially facing a lengthy ban.

Sydney Roosters forward Aliyah Nasio holds the record for the last NRLW player to be referred directly to the judiciary, receiving a four-match ban after striking Broncos' Julia Robinson during last year's grand final. Brisbane Broncos, reigning NRLW premiers, are set to face Canberra this week, followed by a grand final rematch with Sydney Roosters, then a derby against Gold Coast Titans.
