New Lenovo leak just gave us our best look at Google’s post-Chromebook gamble

The leaked Lenovo Googlebook 15 offers a first glance at Google's upcoming shift away from Chromebooks, aiming to compete with premium Windows laptops. The unannounced device, slated for a September reveal at IFA, showcases Googlebook branding on its palm rest and a dedicated Google "G" key for quick access to Gemini. Other notable features include a physical privacy shutter for the webcam and Dolby Atmos branding on upward-facing speakers.

The laptop boasts two USB-C ports, USB-A, HDMI, an SD card reader, and a headphone jack, eliminating the two-port ultrabook conundrum. Its interface includes a phone-style status bar at the top with battery, Wi-Fi, notifications, and Gemini icons, alongside a conventional taskbar at the bottom with pre-installed apps like Chrome, Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Google Photos, Play Store, Canva, and Adobe Premiere Pro.

The inclusion of Adobe Premiere Pro on the taskbar hints at the laptop's performance capabilities. Google promises these Googlebooks will combine Android apps, ChromeOS technology, deeper phone integration, Gemini's Magic Pointer, and high-quality hardware from manufacturers like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. While the exact specifications like storage capacity, battery life, and pricing remain undisclosed, the device's potential to challenge Windows laptops is a topic of interest.
