MP Pappu Yadav attacked at home during presser

On Sunday, a heated incident erupted during an address by Independent MP Pappu Yadav in New Delhi, as he held a press conference. Two men, identified as Sumit and Happy Sharma from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, reportedly targeted Yadav. Sumit allegedly brandished a knife, while Happy threw a slipper at him. The events were captured in videos, which showed a woman allegedly throwing a slipper at Yadav, followed by a chaotic scene involving chairs being thrown as supporters and police intervened.

Yadav's team presented the slipper and knife as evidence, alleging that these were the tools used in the assault. MP Yadav accused the perpetrators of staging a planned attack. Zaid, Yadav's media convener, claimed he had intervened between the attacker and himself, only to be severely beaten. Happy denied carrying any weapon and stated they were screened through security.

Police, however, found a knife in Sumit's possession. This incident came after Yadav's recent skit outside Parliament criticized the alleged donation theft at the Ayodhya Ram temple. Earlier, on July 31, Opposition MPs staged a skit outside Parliament to protest the issue, with Yadav participating as a priest. Bansuri Swaraj, another MP, complained to the police about the matter.

Yadav's legal team, Advocate Kanishk Arora, confirmed that the MP had received numerous death threats in recent days, including videos on social media offering rewards for killing him and threatening his family. Despite informing Delhi Police about these threats and requesting enhanced security for Sunday's event, only three police personnel were deployed.
