Michael Thorbjornsen's clubs: Rocket Classic winner has full bag of TaylorMade gear

Michael Thorbjornsen, a recent winner on the PGA Tour, is now widely known for using a full set of TaylorMade clubs. This victory at the Rocket Classic came as a result of a notable 26-foot birdie putt on the final hole. The success of TaylorMade's Spider range of mallet putters was further solidified by Thorbjornsen's use of their equipment.

Earlier in his career, Thorbjornsen started with a Spider Tour Short Slant but later switched to a Spider Tour X double bend. The tour rep for TaylorMade, Adrian Rietveld, mentioned that Thorbjornsen's practice regimen was highly structured, detailing his drills and process that helped transform him from a talented putter to a more knowledgeable player.

In addition to his putter, Thorbjornsen also altered his iron set this season. He moved from a full set of TaylorMade P7MC irons, including a P770 3-iron, to a more varied set, replacing the 5-PW with TaylorMade P7MBs. The greens in regulation for Thorbjornsen this week were impressive, with only nine misses at Detroit Golf Club.

Further, he also switched to a softer and more spin-prone golf ball, the TP5, similar to the one used by Masters champion Rory McIlroy. Thorbjornsen's club arsenal has developed into a typical setup for a modern, powerful player. It includes a backweighted “LS” driver and a mini driver for safety off the tee. His drivers are a TaylorMade Qi4D LS 9.0 with a loft of 9.75°, weighed at 3g at the front, 8g at the back, and a lie of 58.5°.

The custom driver by TaylorMade, priced at $649.99, has been designed for speed, using a roll radius for consistent spin and a 4° loft sleeve for optimal flight. Thorbjornsen's mini driver, the R7 Quad Mini 13.5°, is priced at $479.99 and is part of a full setup that reflects the characteristics of today's powerful golfers.
