Indian Coal production rises 7.51% YoY, dispatch grows 17.34% in July

India's coal production increased by 7.51% year-on-year in July 2026, while coal dispatch saw an even more significant 17.34% rise during the same month, according to data released by the Ministry of Coal. The country's total coal production for July 2026 was 69.75 million tonnes (MT), up from 64.88 MT in the same month last year.

This growth in production outpaced dispatch, which rose to 86.33 MT in July 2026, a 17.34% increase compared to 73.57 MT in July 2025. The ministry highlighted that these figures reflect the ongoing progress in supplying coal and maintaining operational stability. Cumulatively, coal production up to July 2026 stood at 302.24 MT for the financial year 2026-27, while cumulative coal dispatch reached 354.70 MT during the same period.

The ministry noted that cumulative dispatch for the first four months of the financial year increased by 5.87% compared to the same period in the previous financial year. The July performance demonstrated sustained growth in both coal production and dispatch, with dispatch growing at a faster rate than production.
