Ibu, teman lelaki warga Bangladesh didakwa bunuh anak 5 tahun

A woman from Indonesia and her Bangladeshi friend have been charged in George Town Magistrate's Court for allegedly killing their five-year-old son in July. The couple, Dina Hayati, 30, and Sany, 34, appeared in court while denying the charges. However, no pleas were recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court, reported Sinar Harian.

According to the charges, the pair is accused of murdering their son, Ali Sahari Ali Juhar, in the living room of a house in Lintang Merak, Sungai Dua, on July 23 at 9:30 am. They are alleged to have committed the act under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of death by hanging or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years, along with 12 lashes. The prosecution was handled by Assistant Public Prosecutor Ahmad Danial Amir Saad, while both defendants were not represented by lawyers.

The court has adjourned the case until October 6 for toxicological and pathological reports. Earlier reports stated that the victim, a UNHCR registered refugee, died at a hospital in Penang after being brought there by a foreign man. The child had initially suffered an epileptic fit before regaining consciousness. Hospital staff later reported to the police upon finding extensive blood on the victim's body.
