'I Would Need It to Be Completely Unconventional' — Andrew Garfield Is Open to The Amazing Spider-Man 3 on One Condition

Andrew Garfield has expressed his willingness to return as Spider-Man for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but with one significant condition: the film must be utterly unconventional. During an interview with The Playlist, the actor was cautious about committing to a possible return but emphasized that he would only do it if the role involved something truly strange and unexpected.

Garfield stated, "I don’t know. I really don’t know," and went on to describe what he would envision for this unconventional Spider-Man adventure: "I would need it to be very, very odd. I would need it to be very strange, and I would need it to be completely unconventional and almost — I wouldn’t say boring — but I would want it to be just completely unexpected, like a genre of Spider-Man that you’ve never seen before, that feels very left field."

Although Garfield himself is unsure of how precisely this unconventional Spider-Man film would manifest, he offered a possible idea: perhaps a road trip movie. Garfield's run as Spider-Man concluded in 2014, following the release of The Amazing Spider-Man duology, which was less successful than Tobey Maguire's trilogy. After the underwhelming performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, discussions emerged about integrating Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

However, Sony opted to drop Garfield and reboot the franchise, leading to Tom Holland's selection as the new Spider-Man. Holland has since starred in seven Marvel films, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day being his latest and reportedly the biggest domestic opening weekend in history. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield had the opportunity to reprise his role alongside Tobey Maguire and Holland, providing him with a sense of closure and redemption as Peter Parker.

Since then, fans have been eager to see Garfield and Maguire return in standalone films, though the likelihood of this happening remains uncertain.
