How That Fiery Episode 7 Twist in House of the Dragon Season 3 Sets Up the Show's Endgame

In House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 7, Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) faces a series of unfortunate events. After being nearly burned alive by his brother Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) and his dragon Vhagar in the Battle of Rook's Rest during Season 2, Aegon spends Season 3 seeking refuge under the guidance of his advisor and friend Larys Strong (Matthew Needham).

Due to his disfigurement, loss of his dragon, and constant pain, Aegon's survival hinges on secrecy and avoiding detection. Nevertheless, Aegon's dragon Sunfyre (unknown actress) dies, forcing him to let her lifeless body be turned into a tourist attraction by locals.

Meanwhile, Larys' plan to transport Aegon to Braavos fails. With no choice, Aegon decides to face his fate and surrenders, proclaiming, "I will not have the histories say that I was slain in ignominy by my own brother."

Larys departs, leaving Tyland to protect Aegon. Unfortunately, the duo is no match for the advancing soldiers. Just when it seems all hope is lost, Sunfyre awakens from her healing state, unleashing a powerful display of fire to strike down the enemy troops. In a dramatic twist, Aegon exclaims triumph while Sunfyre's reemergence hints at her significant role in the Targaryen Civil War's conclusion.

Although Sunfyre's fate within George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood remains uncertain, her entrance in House of the Dragon Season 3 offers a glimmer of hope for this fiery chapter's ultimate resolution.
