Ghana Manganese Company projects 700,000 tonnes monthly production in August

Ghana Manganese Company anticipates producing approximately 700,000 tonnes of manganese ore in August 2026. This projected output is attributed to improved weather conditions and the introduction of new heavy mining equipment. The increase in production signifies a notable recovery from the slowdown the company experienced during the heaviest rainfall of the year, which began in May and persisted into July.

The Nsuta-based mining firm attributes the production setback to challenging haulage and processing operations due to heavy rainfall. However, with the onset of drier weather in August, GMC claims that mining conditions have significantly improved, contributing to the surge in production. The company’s sole responsibility as Ghana’s manganese ore producer and exporter suggests that this production boost is further bolstered by the gradual introduction of newly commissioned heavy-duty machinery, which is expected to enhance operational efficiency.

Beyond its role in supplying manganese ore to the global steel industry, there is a growing demand for high-grade carbonate manganese ore, primarily due to its expanding use in battery value chains supporting clean energy technologies. The company has reiterated its commitment to Ghana’s value-addition agenda, including plans to establish a manganese refinery. The refinery, if realized, is expected to generate additional economic opportunities for the nation.

GMC remains vigilant in monitoring weather conditions while striving to optimize the performance of its expanded fleet. The company aims to maintain elevated production levels throughout the second half of the year, ultimately aiming to hit its full-year output target of eight million tonnes.
