Geekom IT13 Max review: An Ultra 9 mini PC held back by its own configuration

The Geekom IT13 Max is an intriguing mini PC, crafted in a style reminiscent of typical Mini PCs, yet possessing a more substantial and industrial build quality than one might typically anticipate. Its design, however, remains unremarkable, focusing purely on functionality, even extending to the metal pressed backplate. The specifications are noteworthy, featuring a high-performance Ultra 9 185H processor, integrated Arc GPU and NPU, delivering impressive computing power.

Yet, the system feels somewhat constrained, with only 24GB of soldered RAM and a meager 500GB storage, rendering it impractical for extensive file storage. During tests conducted for 4K video editing in Premiere Pro and gaming, it became evident that the system could only host a single game at a time, highlighting its limitations.

Upon further investigation, it becomes apparent that the RS232 and RS485 headers contribute to the system's potential integration with larger industrial systems, transcending the capabilities of typical mini PCs. While this mini PC offers significant power for demanding tasks, it may not be the optimal choice for the creative industry or gaming.

As a standalone mini PC, it is understated and powerful, excelling in office applications and presenting a solid machine for office use. However, it is a machine primarily designed for integration into larger industry applications. Priced at £749 ($749), the IT13 Max is available directly from Geekom US and Geekom UK, as well as on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.

This price grants access to the configuration with 24GB RAM and 500GB SSD that was reviewed. There are two versions of this machine, with one offering a lower specification of 16GB DDR5 and a 1TB SSD option, better suited for creatives when paired with an eGPU.
