FG fine on sponsor forced ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ off air — Frank Edoho

Media personality Frank Edoho has revealed that his departure from the popular TV show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" was not due to being sacked, as widely reported. Edoho, speaking on The KK Show, clarified that the show's sponsor withdrew its support following a regulatory penalty imposed by the Federal Government. Edoho, who worked as a radio host for four years before transitioning to television, explained that the sponsor had backed the show for a decade.

The financial burden of the fine led to the sponsor's withdrawal, ultimately causing the show to end. Edoho had been considering acquiring a stake in the show and becoming an executive producer, but negotiations broke down over disagreements. The false report of his sacking caused speculation that he was no longer involved in the show, leading to his absence from the relaunched edition under a new sponsor.

Edoho, who hosted the show for 13 years from 2004 to 2017, returned to "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" in 2022 when it resumed after a five-year break.
