Ex-Man City striker Dzeko, 40, pens new Schalke deal

Edin Dzeko, the 40-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina captain, has signed a one-year contract extension with Bundesliga side Schalke. The former Manchester City striker moved to Germany in January 2026 on a free transfer from Fiorentina, playing a pivotal role in Schalke's promotion back to the Bundesliga. Dzeko expressed his delight at winning promotion, stating that it was a highlight of his career.

He remains committed to helping Schalke succeed in the Bundesliga, citing his ongoing hunger for success. The veteran striker captained his national team at the 2026 World Cup, scoring six goals in 11 Bundesliga 2 matches. Dzeko's last Bundesliga appearance was in the 2010-11 season with Wolfsburg, after leaving Schalke for £27m to join Manchester City.
