Court of Appeal ignored ‘mountain of evidence’ in Sedina’s acquittal – Alfred Tuah-Yeboah

Former Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has harshly criticized the Court of Appeal for acquitting former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, stating that the appellate court failed to adequately assess the evidence presented during her trial. On July 30, the Court of Appeal overturned Tamakloe-Attionu's conviction and 10-year prison sentence, ruling that prosecutors had not proven their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

This decision reversed the High Court's earlier finding of her guilt on multiple charges. However, Tuah-Yeboah maintains that the evidence presented at the trial court was sufficient to uphold the conviction and argues that the appellate court erred by focusing on select aspects of the case rather than considering the entire body of evidence.

In an interview on Citi FM, Tuah-Yeboah emphasized that those seeking to evaluate the case should review both the trial court's and the Court of Appeal's judgments rather than relying solely on the appellate court's ruling. He emphasized that the Court of Appeal's decision was flawed by isolating convenient areas of the case, and that the actual judgment revealed a "shoddy job."

According to Tuah-Yeboah, the evidence in the record indicated that there was a "mountain of evidence" that any reasonable court would have concluded led to a case against Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu. The Attorney-General has since announced that the state will appeal the Court of Appeal's decision to the Supreme Court.
