Chelsea sign England midfielder Henderson from Brentford

Chelsea has finalized the signing of Valentin Barco, a midfielder from Strasbourg, on a seven-year contract. The 21-year-old is the club's sixth acquisition this summer, following Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck, Emmanuel Emegha, Maxence Lacroix, and Marco Palestra. Barco will join the rest of the Chelsea team during their pre-season tour, which will see them compete against Juventus in Hong Kong on August 5th.

The fee for Barco's transfer remains undisclosed. The Argentine-born player made his debut for Argentina during the 2026 World Cup, where they finished as runners-up to Spain. Barco was also involved in a notable incident, where he received a slap from Chelsea's young star Jude Bellingham after their semi-final victory over England.

Barco, a product of Boca Juniors' academy, began his professional journey at Brighton in 2024 for £7.9m, but his stay was brief, lasting only a year. He subsequently joined Strasbourg the following season after a fruitful loan spell. Notably, this transfer marks the second instance this summer where Chelsea has signed a player from Strasbourg, with both clubs sharing ownership by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. This transaction is the 13th deal between the two clubs since the commencement of last season.
