CBS Orders Comedy Pilot for ‘Hilda! (In Lights)’ From Abbey Caldwell

CBS has granted a pilot order for the comedy project titled "Hilda! (In Lights)" penned by TV writer Abbey Caldwell, known for her work on "Laid" and "Fresh Off the Boat." Caldwell is slated to serve as both writer and executive producer for the single-cam pilot, which revolves around a 70-year-old woman from Nebraska chasing her aspirations on Broadway.

This development follows CBS's announcement in April that it had commissioned three scripts for the project. The pilot's synopsis reads: "One of those classic shows about a plucky small-town optimist who moves to the big city to pursue her life-long dream of starring on Broadway. There's just one teeny, tiny, totally inconsequential difference... our hero Hilda is a 70-year-old woman from Nebraska with absolutely no experience."

Besides Caldwell, the executive producers for the endeavor are Will Graham, Max Linsky, and Tonia Davis from Invitation Media. Hailing from CBS Studios, Caldwell's previous writing credits include the sex comedy "Laid" on Peacock, as well as "Krapopolis" for Fox and "Fresh Off the Boat" for ABC. In April, CBS announced plans for a development room to begin scripting "Flint," with Matt LeBlanc attached as a star and executive producer should the project receive a greenlight.

"Flint" is set in CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television, and follows a burned-out LAPD detective who, on the brink of retirement, is unexpectedly given an additional five years of service. Driven to be discharged, he disregards rules and orders, inadvertently becoming a better cop in the process.
