Biofuel Bunker Snapshot: Conventional VLSFO price drop weighs on B30-VLSFO

Rotterdam's B30-VLSFO price has decreased by $23 per metric ton over the past week, likely due to a $17 per metric ton drop in conventional VLSFO price in the port. The B30-LSMGO price in Rotterdam rose $11 per metric ton to $1,375 per metric ton, with LSMGO price increases contributing to this rise. B100 is priced at $1,354 per metric ton, down $33 over the week.

Prima Markets reports POMEME and UCOME barge prices have increased by $1 per metric ton to $1,798 and $1,728 per metric ton, respectively. Rotterdam's bio-bunker sales surged 44% year-on-year in Q2 to 247,000 metric tons, surpassing Singapore's volumes for the first time since 2024. Bunker supplier Burando Energies supplied 30% of bio-blended bunker fuel in the first half of the year.

The increase in bio-bunker volumes is attributed to EU mandate-driven requirements and incentives, according to Prima Markets analyst Ulrich Arnheiter. The Netherlands implemented RED III in January, incentivizing low-carbon advanced biofuel suppliers in Dutch ports through tradeable ZRE A tickets. The price of these tickets increased €25 per metric ton CO2e to €130 per metric ton CO2e.

In contrast, Gibraltar's B30-VLSFO price dropped $14 per metric ton and offers a $48 per metric ton premium over Lisbon's B30-VLSFO. Lisbon's B30-LSMGO price is $1,517 per metric ton, $142 per metric ton higher than Rotterdam's. B100 in Lisbon dropped $51 per metric ton over the week to $1,784 per metric ton. Singapore's B30-VLSFO price declined $105 per metric ton over the week, narrowing the port's B30-VLSFO price premium over conventional VLSFO by $71 per metric ton.
