Belgorod UAV research university ablaze following overnight drone attack - video

A fire erupted at Belgorod State Technological University overnight on August 3, following a drone attack, according to Russian media outlet Astra. The university, known for its work in drone research and development, was involved in the creation of an automated drone control system utilizing Milandr microprocessors. However, university officials emphasized that the technology was intended for peaceful uses, such as monitoring infrastructure and aerial photography.

In the summer of 2026, the university began offering summer courses for young students interested in drone technology. Despite the ongoing investigation, Russian authorities have not yet disclosed the full impact of the attack. The operational headquarters of Belgorod Oblast had been issuing frequent warnings about the risk of drone attacks throughout the night.

On July 25, Belgorod faced a significant drone assault, causing fires in logistics warehouses and energy infrastructure facilities. Smoke was observed near an electrical substation at the Promin Combined Heat and Power Plant, and another probable strike on the Pivdenna substation resulted in a fire with dense smoke.
