Anthropic's Claude to infer, process data locally on Indian servers for local customers

Anthropic, a prominent AI company, has announced that it will provide its Claude service to Indian customers through servers located within the country, according to a statement on Monday. Indian customers have long requested this option, as it allows them to access Claude locally.

In the coming weeks, Claude will be available for inference in India through Amazon Bedrock, AWS's platform for creating generative AI applications and agents at scale. This means that requests made through the India endpoint will be processed on servers located within the country. Anthropic India's managing director, Irina Ghose, emphasized that bringing Claude inference to India represents a significant milestone for enterprise AI in the nation.

With the ability to keep sensitive data within Indian borders, AI systems can move from experimental pilots to critical business applications. Anthropic has been expanding its local team, enhancing support for Indian languages, and forming partnerships to deliver this technology for India.

The company highlighted the importance of in-country inference for organizations in highly regulated industries. Anthropic and AWS are offering partners assurance in the safe use of Claude, with the same audit trails and access controls that risk and compliance teams require before deployment in production.

Several major Indian IT service companies have already integrated Claude into their offerings, including Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, and Cognizant. Anthropic has seen a strong response to its Claude Partner Network globally, with India among the top regions for registrations, and a growing number of Indian partners achieving Preferred and Select tiers.
