Trump says he will hold off on fresh Iran attack in hope of quick deal

President Donald Trump has announced that the U.S. will temporarily refrain from launching a fresh attack on Iran, provided a swift deal can be reached to halt Iran's nuclear ambitions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The statement was made on Trump's Truth Social platform late on Saturday, following a call with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Trump emphasized that he had agreed to cancel the attack, as long as a deal could be rapidly concluded to the benefit of the world and Iran's prosperity. Israel also joined the U.S. in this commitment. Iran, for its part, has reportedly boosted its deterrence capabilities. Israel's energy minister, Eli Cohen, confirmed close security and intelligence coordination between Israel and the U.S. regarding the ongoing crisis in the region.

However, Israel has vowed to take action if Iran attempts to renew its nuclear program or advance its ballistic missile industries. Iran's acting defense minister stated that Tehran perceived recent U.S. threats as psychological warfare but was treating them seriously, emphasizing that Iran would boost preparedness and deterrence rather than remain passive.

The recent escalation has caused energy prices to surge and stoked broader inflation. The war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran has spread across the Gulf, Red Sea, and even to a Mediterranean facility in Egypt.
