Skubal to Dodgers, Peralta to Rays as MLB teams add pitching at trade deadline

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Freddy Peralta is swapping teams, bolstering the rotation for the two-time defending champions. As the Major League Baseball trade deadline approaches on Monday, only a handful of high-caliber pitching options remain available. The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired pitcher Tarik Skubal, joining a roster already filled with high-profile talent such as Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Mookie Betts.

Should all players remain healthy, Skubal could join forces with Ohtani, World Series MVP Yamamoto, fellow two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow in their rotation. The Dodgers have led the majors with a 3.36 ERA from their starting pitchers heading into Sunday's games, and adding Skubal only strengthens that position.

Skubal expressed his excitement about joining the Dodgers, stating his desire to meet the team and contribute to their quest for three consecutive championships. In return, the Tigers have received three minor league prospects, including right-handers River Ryan and Brady Smith, and outfielder Zyhir Hope. Throughout his career, Skubal has compiled a 61-42 record with a 3.04 ERA over seven seasons, all with the Detroit Tigers. In postseason play, he boasts a 2-1 record and 2.04 ERA in six starts.
