Sam Ehlinger pushing Jarrett Stidham for Broncos' backup job

Sam Ehlinger participated in the Broncos' second-team practice drills on Saturday, according to reports from 9News. Jarrett Stidham, the team's backup to Bo Nix for the past two seasons, was observed during the third-team practice. Broncos head coach Sean Payton, as cited by Klis, stated that there were no significant discussions or decisions made during the session.

It marked the first time Ehlinger has taken charge of the No. 2 offense, assuming Bo Nix's health remains intact. The former backup to Stidham during the AFC Championship Game when Nix sustained an ankle injury, Ehlinger faced opportunities to transfer to Washington and Indianapolis last season, potentially improving his chances for the No. 2 position.

However, he opted to remain on the Broncos' practice squad. Now, Ehlinger appears poised to challenge Stidham for the backup role. Payton expressed his satisfaction with the decision, stating that the team aims to foster development and never guarantees a specific position. He mentioned that they observed immediate growth in Ehlinger and believe the player felt motivated to continue with the offense and progress further.
