Rumoren in der SPD: Wackeln Bärbel Bas und Lars Klingbeil?

Since the election season in Sachsen-Anhalt is approaching, there is growing concern within the SPD. Though the coalition partner has remained silent on the issue, internal rumors within the party are intensifying. Many perceive the crisis-ridden party and its two chairpersons, Social Affairs Minister Bärbel Bas and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, as under pressure ahead of crucial elections in Sachsen-Anhalt, Berlin, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Bas defended her dual role as SPD leader and minister in an interview with ZDF, emphasizing the party's historical responsibility for the coalition's success. She defended the incumbent personnel lineup, stating that she currently opposes personnel debates. However, there are murmurs among certain factions that it is long overdue for Bas and Klingbeil to relinquish one of their dual roles, as they are seen as insufficiently committed to an SPD with its own direction.

The Bielefeld branch of the SPD's central committee criticized the high party and government offices as incompatible with one another. Many local party members are rightfully disappointed, having set hopes for years under the illusion of the SPD as a social conscience. But now, they attribute the "wrong" decisions to the SPD's partnership with the CDU/CSU.

For NRW-Generalsekretär Frederick Cordes, the letter exemplifies the widespread feeling among the grassroots that they do not feel sufficiently supported by the federal government. Bas defended her dual role, stating that while it is questioned whether these two roles are compatible, the SPD has achieved many things through government.

She acknowledged that her criticism applies to Klingbeil as well, but affirmed that without the SPD, a "neoliberal course" would not be halted and the party is the sole obstacle to such a path.
