Morocco names Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway after Trump

In a symbolic gesture, Morocco has named its extensive Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway the “Donald J. Trump Highway,” highlighting the deep connection between King Mohammed VI and former US President Donald Trump. This decision underscores the robust strategic partnership between Morocco and the United States, which has flourished during Trump's two presidential terms.

In a July 2, 2026 letter, King Mohammed VI informed President Trump of the naming, praising the relationship as particularly dynamic and productive. The highway, spanning over 1,055 kilometers, connects northern and southern Morocco, forming a vital link between Europe and Africa. King Mohammed VI emphasized how the road enhances territorial connectivity, much like Trump's leadership strengthened the bilateral ties between the two nations.

Following the announcement, President Trump expressed his gratitude in a message on his Truth Social platform, calling it a "Great Honor" and hinting at his intention to travel the full length of the highway. The Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway, built according to international standards, was part of King Mohammed VI's development model for Morocco's southern provinces, launched on the 40th anniversary of the Green March.

It aims to improve road safety, reduce travel times, and mitigate disruptions from flooding and sand accumulation while facilitating the movement of people and goods. Beyond its national significance, the expressway serves as the backbone of Morocco's Atlantic corridor, integral to the King's vision of turning the Atlantic coast into a hub of development, cooperation, and shared prosperity with African countries.
