Mahama expresses concern over unhygienic fish drying video at Tema Newtown

President John Dramani Mahama has voiced worry over a video released by the Buzstop Boys, highlighting unhygienic fish drying conditions at Tema Newtown. Addressing an audience at Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God, Mahama pointed out the video's depiction of poor sanitation practices in the fishing community, underscoring the unsanitary environment in which fish intended for market consumption is processed.

He emphasized, "The fish is supposed to come into the market. These Buzstop Boys went to Tema Newtown, and if you see the rubbish there, they were drying fish. And that fish is supposed to come into the market." This footage, Mahama argued, underscores the pressing need for enhanced sanitation measures and more effective management of food processing sites to safeguard public health.

The President also paid tribute to the Buzstop Boys, acknowledging their role in bringing attention to sanitation issues through their environmental advocacy efforts. He further encouraged Ghanaians to embrace responsible waste disposal practices, cautioning that improper disposal of items such as sachet water wrappers, Styrofoam containers, and food packaging in drains leads to flooding.

Mahama drew a parallel between environmental cleanliness and personal behavior, referencing James 2:17, which posits that "faith without works is dead." He underscored that promoting cleanliness in the environment necessitates tangible action and must be mirrored in the conduct and character of citizens.
