I Turned Staff Interview Prep Into a Midnight Ramen Bowl 🍜

This is a submission for CSS Art, a Frontend Challenge. The inspiration behind this piece is the comforting feeling of late-night ramen, which is warm, flexible, and just right after a long day. The goal was to turn that feeling into a useful tool for engineers preparing for technical interviews. Interview prep can be overwhelming due to the vast range of topics, so the idea was to simplify it by breaking it down into manageable parts, much like a bowl of ramen.

The bowl is composed of different ingredients, each representing a specific aspect of interview preparation: Broth, Noodles, Toppings, and Demo. The Broth symbolizes system-design principles and trade-offs, Noodles represent focused repetition and practice, Toppings stand for role, company context, and personal stories. The Demo part serves as a visual representation of the entire preparation process.

The CSS used to create this bowl includes HTML elements layered on top of each other, gradients, border radii, box shadows, and pseudo-elements. No images, SVGs, canvas, or generated artwork were used in the demo. The bowl is designed to be responsive, ensuring it remains visually appealing regardless of the device used.

The interactive aspect of the bowl allows visitors to choose one of four prep directions and the amount of time they have. This selection changes the bowl's visual treatment and generates a personalized roadmap using the interview-prep resources available on Interviews Vector. The interactive part was the most satisfying part of the project, as it provided visitors with a useful first step towards their interview preparation.

Some key features that the creator is particularly proud of include the bowl's responsiveness, support for the prefers-reduced-motion preference, and the "Copy this bowl" action, which creates a shareable link with the selected recipe. The final call to action directs visitors to a practical, useful plan, rather than a generic sign-up page. The creator hopes to continue expanding on this project, adding more "prep rituals" to help engineers in their interview preparation journey.
