Breastfeeding awareness walkathon held in Chennai

A breastfeeding awareness walkathon took place at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai on Saturday, in preparation for World Breastfeeding Week. The event, organized by the Neonatology Association of Tamil Nadu in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk, gathered healthcare professionals, medical students, nurses, and volunteers to underscore the significance of breastfeeding and donor human milk.

The walkathon emphasized exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life, continued breastfeeding alongside appropriate complementary feeding, and the crucial role of human milk banks in enhancing the well-being of critically ill and premature newborns. Organizers stressed that unwavering support from families, healthcare providers, workplaces, communities, and policymakers is vital to empower mothers to breastfeed successfully, thereby improving maternal and child health.
