BN’s slim wins turn into landslides with PN pact

In the Negeri Sembilan state election, the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, in collaboration with the Perikatan Nasional (PN), experienced a remarkable shift in voter support, transforming eight previously narrow victories into substantial wins. This change was documented in a post-election analysis of the latest results, revealing how BN's vote counts surged dramatically across several key areas.

In Palong, the winning margin ballooned from just 564 votes in 2023 to a staggering 13,702 votes, with Mustapha Nagoor securing a dominant lead over his rivals. Similarly, Lenggeng saw Asna Amin's majority skyrocket from 685 to 9,994 votes, while Suhaimi Aini's majority in Kota surged from a paltry 135 votes to 7,693. These transformations marked a significant shift in voter preferences, indicating a strengthening of the BN's position in these traditionally competitive constituencies.

The collaboration between BN and PN also had a profound impact on the overall electoral landscape. BN's combined majority in the eight transformed seats ballooned more than 15-fold, from 3,722 votes in 2023 to an impressive 55,908 votes in the most recent election. This transformation solidified BN's position as the dominant force in Negeri Sembilan, with PN candidates choosing not to contest these seats, allowing BN to consolidate its support among voters.

As a result of these electoral shifts, BN emerged victorious in 18 of the 29 contested seats, while the People's Justice Party (PH) secured 11 seats, and PN claimed seven. The BN and PN coalition subsequently agreed to form the new Negeri Sembilan state government, with Ismail Lasim from Umno taking the helm as the new Menteri Besar, signaling a new era of governance in the state.
