AMA fines Rawlings Park food vendors GH¢1,000 for defying National Sanitation Day directive

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has imposed a fine of GH¢1,000 on each food vendor operating at Rawlings Park for flouting the directives of the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise. This enforcement action was carried out by the Assembly's enforcement team, who found the vendors selling food despite the requirement for businesses in the area to temporarily cease operations and participate in the sanitation event.

This action is part of the AMA's strategy to ensure adherence to sanitation regulations and to encourage involvement from residents, traders, and businesses in initiatives aimed at enhancing cleanliness across the capital. The fines are intended to discourage individuals and businesses from ignoring directives issued during the National Sanitation Day campaign.

The AMA has emphasized that the effectiveness of sanitation exercises relies on the active participation and cooperation of all stakeholders. The National Sanitation Day initiative aims to enhance hygiene, diminish reckless waste disposal, and promote responsible waste management through routine clean-up activities.
