For nearly 25 years, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has held the position of Adun Asajaya in Malaysian politics. The Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries, and Heritage revealed that he informed Premier Abang Johari Openg of his belief that he had served enough time and achieved a significant milestone in his political career.

"I told Abang Jo, 'I think enough, okay, 25 years.' After my third term, I told him, 'Three terms, 15 years is enough,' " he stated at the UIAM Alumni Assembly in Sarawak, according to Dayak Daily. Abdul Karim won the Asajaya parliamentary seat for the first time in the 2001 Sarawak PRN and has successfully retained the seat in every election since then.

However, he continued to serve after being entrusted with additional responsibilities, including overseeing the tourism portfolio and former portfolios related to sports and entrepreneurs. Speaking to reporters after the event, the Deputy Chief of the United PAS Party expressed that elected representatives must be willing to step down when their time comes, regardless of how long they have served.

"Anyone who becomes a representative of the people in Sarawak, whether in their first, third, fourth, or sixth term, must be prepared... when the situation requires it, we must stop," he said. Abdul Karim stated that political figures should not be reluctant to step down or seek nominations independently if they are not chosen. "There should be no feeling of unwillingness to leave a position or saying, 'If I am not chosen, I will oppose back.'
