The hopes of two families are dashed as terror attack leaves their sole breadwinners dead

Deepak Ratre and Bhupendra Baina, two Chhattisgarh residents, lost their lives in a terror attack in Kulgam district, south Kashmir. Deepak, 24, was the sole breadwinner for his family of five, including a disabled younger brother, an elderly mother, his wife, and a four-month-old infant son. Bhupendra, 28, was a father of one. Both men were among a group of labourers from Chhattisgarh who were targeted by terrorists.

Deepak's maternal uncle, Dilharan Sande, expressed his grief over the loss, stating that the families had no hope of providing a house in their native village due to the attack. Bhupendra's sister, Annu, broke down in tears, lamenting that their only son will never again lay eyes on his father. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced an ex gratia assistance of ₹20 lakh for each of the families, emphasizing the attack as an assault on humanity and the unity of the nation.
