Shittu 'robbed' - are AI boxing judges the answer?

Former champion Richie Woodhall expressed his disappointment that Dimeji Shittu, an English boxer, had to settle for silver at the Commonwealth Games after a controversial loss to India's Ankush Panghal. Woodhall stated that the referee, rather than Shittu, had cost him the contest. Shittu, 24, was penalized in the second and third rounds, but even without those penalties, he still would not have won due to the judging.

The referee's decision has reignited a longstanding debate about the officiating in boxing. Would incorporating artificial intelligence into the judging process help improve transparency and integrity? Shittu accepted the rules and blamed himself for the loss, stating, "Those are the rules. We live and we learn." Other boxers, such as England's superheavyweight champion Delicious Orie, also believed the result was unfair and suggested that AI could be a solution to the inherent subjectivity in boxing judging.
