NACOC arrests 10 over alleged cannabis distribution at KTU SRC Week celebration

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has apprehended ten individuals for their alleged involvement in the distribution of cannabis and cannabis-infused products at the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week events hosted by the Koforidua Technical University (KTU). The suspects, consisting of nine men and a woman, were apprehended on Friday night following an intelligence-led operation prompted by reports of suspected drug activities on the university grounds.

According to NACOC, the operation resulted in the seizure of an unspecified amount of suspected cannabis and various consumable items speculated to contain the narcotic. These items included wraps of suspected cannabis, cups of "abele" ice cream, bottles of pineapple juice, sobolo drinks, fresh palm wine, and other beverages. Preliminary testing on the seized materials revealed the presence of cannabis, suggesting that the products were distributed to revelers during the festivities.

The ten suspects are presently cooperating with investigations as NACOC strives to ascertain the full scope of the alleged operation and identify any additional individuals linked to the suspected illicit drug distribution network. NACOC has reiterated its dedication to ensuring drug-free educational environments and called upon students and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
