KBO to allow delaying games up to an hour amid record heat wave

The South Korean baseball league, known as the KBO, has announced a new policy to manage games during the ongoing record-breaking heat wave. Starting Saturday, the KBO will allow matches to be delayed by up to an hour, with exceptions for Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome, the only stadium equipped with a dome. All other venues, except for the two specified games in Busan and Changwon, can adjust their kick-off times following consultations between the league's game operations committee and the individual club officials.

In areas under a severe heat wave warning, the KBO is considering not just delaying games but also canceling them if necessary. The league acted swiftly, canceling two games scheduled for the evening in Busan and Changwon due to the extreme temperatures forecasted to exceed 37 degrees Celsius at the scheduled start times. This decision aligns with existing KBO regulations that permit game cancellations or postponements due to adverse weather conditions, including strong winds, extreme heat, fog, fine dust, and yellow dust.
