Farmer killed after tractor overturns into Ayutthaya canal

1 August 2026, a tragic incident unfolded in Bang Ban district of Ayutthaya, where a 61-year-old farmer named Samran Charitkhuan lost his life when his tractor overturned into an irrigation canal. The accident came to light around 14:00 following an alert from police, who responded to a location along an irrigation canal road in Moo 1, Kop Chao subdistrict.

Upon arrival, officers and rescue teams discovered the tractor overturned in the canal, with half of it submerged and its wheels pointing upwards. The driver, Mr. Samran, was found trapped beneath the vehicle.

Rescue efforts were initiated promptly, and a crane was mobilized to lift the tractor from the water. Following the extraction, Samran's body was recovered, and the family, including relatives and neighbors, gathered at the scene to manage the aftermath. Neighbour Sangwan Buaprasert, also 61, recounted that Samran was typically punctual and would leave his home early to work in his rice fields, returning home for lunch.

Upon not finding Samran at midday, the family grew worried and launched a search for him. Mrs. Samran later spotted the submerged tractor and alerted others, leading to the discovery of her husband trapped beneath the vehicle. Tragically, attempts to rescue him were unsuccessful in time.

Initial investigations suggested that the accident might have happened around the time Samran was moving from a nearby rice field towards the canal on a bend, leading to the tractor losing control and overturning. The police have the scene documented and intend to conduct further inquiries to ascertain the precise cause of the incident.

The body was subsequently transported to Bang Ban Hospital for a post-mortem examination, after which it would be handed over to the family for religious rituals.
