A new survey by professional services company Adaptavist reveals that many office workers long for the pre-AI work life, expressing frustration over the current state of AI integration in their daily routines. Over 60% of the survey respondents yearn for their old jobs, with a third even willing to delete generative AI tools entirely if they could. Surprisingly, 36% of the participants admitted they did not understand why AI was being imposed on them in the first place.

The surge of AI has resulted in increased frustration and stress for workers, who must painstakingly review AI-generated outputs and undergo prompt engineering, a task not part of their original job responsibilities. An alarming 42% of respondents reported spending more time verifying AI output than saving time, while 49% noted that poor-quality AI output slows down projects. Additionally, 48% of respondents stated that the excessive slop created by AI has made their jobs feel repetitive and less meaningful.

As tech leaders push for AI adoption, workers fear losing their jobs within the next five years, with 54% of survey participants expressing this concern. Adaptavist's report highlights the need for clear guardrails, accountability, and alignment to prevent AI from becoming a burden rather than a support system. The survey underscores that the alluring promise of AI efficiency has been overshadowed by a growing burden on the very people it was designed to assist.
