Ubisoft is shutting down its weird NFT game that came out two years after the whole craze died down

Ubisoft is discontinuing its Web3-enabled NFT strategy game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, following the expiration of its servers on October 30. This comes after the game's transition away from Web3 functionality was announced by Ubisoft in May. The game, which allowed battle units to be minted and traded on a blockchain marketplace, had a small but dedicated fanbase.

Notably, Champions Tactics was released in 2024, nearly three years after the NFT craze peaked in 2021 and fizzled out in 2022. Despite this delay, Ubisoft is attempting to retain existing players by offering in-game rewards for transitioning to a new game, Might and Magic Fates. This latter game is a deckbuilder, similar to Hearthstone, where players can buy and sell cards using cash or cryptocurrency.
